Police conducted 377 undercover investigations involving deepfake sexual crimes after the scope was expanded to adult victims, up 246% from a year earlier. Korean law can punish people who buy, possess or knowingly view deepfake sexual-abuse material with up to three years in prison or a fine of up to 30 million won.
The enforcement focus is therefore extending beyond producers and distributors to people who acquire or consume the material.
