South Korean authorities are warning about financial crimes that target periods of heavier spending and transactions around Chuseok. From October 2, investigations of these offenses are set to be divided among police, the Serious Crimes Investigation Agency and the Financial Supervisory Service's special judicial police.

The new division of responsibility arrives as officials are urging extra caution over livelihood-targeting fraud. The transition also raises a practical question about how smoothly cases will move among agencies once the new jurisdiction takes effect.
