A fire in a 15-story apartment building in Incheon's Gyeyang district seriously injured a man in his 20s and forced 28 residents to evacuate early on Chuseok morning. The blaze started on the fifth floor at about 6:18 a.m. after emergency services received reports of black smoke coming from the building. The injured resident was taken to a nearby hospital.
Incheon fire authorities sent 73 personnel and 30 pieces of equipment to the scene. Firefighters extinguished the blaze at about 6:48 a.m., roughly half an hour after it was reported. The evacuation prevented a larger number of residents from remaining inside the building while smoke and firefighting operations were under way.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire and the scale of the property damage. The case is separate from other holiday-period fires in the region and is being handled as a residential incident rather than part of a wider emergency. The next confirmed information is expected to come from the fire-cause investigation and the medical condition of the injured resident.
