South Korean railway-police data show an average 2.3 sexual-offense cases a day across rail facilities over the past five and a half years. Total railway crime also increased by more than 42% between 2021 and last year, according to the data cited in the report.
The figures cover stations and other rail facilities used by large numbers of passengers every day. They give a national measure of the public-safety problem rather than a snapshot of a single station or incident.
