South Korean airport security has been finding more than 1,000 power banks a day that violate cabin rules or lack required airline approval. From the introduction of the transport ministry's battery and e-cigarette guidance in March last year through August this year, authorities recorded 608,370 such cases, including 267,983 in the first eight months of this year.
The scale has drawn renewed attention after a recent Air Seoul fire, putting battery compliance back at the center of passenger-safety concerns.
