The National Tax Service plans to reduce the average period that regular audit teams remain on company premises from 52 days to 33 days. Businesses will also gain more flexibility to choose an audit start date within a three-month window around major corporate schedules. Regular audits of businesses with less than 1 billion won in sales will remain deferred through year-end, while regional companies can receive longer deferrals.

The tax agency says it will pair the lighter burden on compliant taxpayers with tougher investigations of hidden offshore assets and market-related tax evasion.
