South Korea’s National Assembly has passed an amendment allowing fines of up to 5% of operating profit for companies where at least three workers die in industrial accidents within a year. The bill passed the plenary session on October 1 with 161 votes in favor among 219 lawmakers present. The new penalty links the maximum fine directly to a company’s operating profit.
