Prosecutors in Uiseong, North Gyeongsang Province, have indicted a police investigator without detention over allegations that he falsely recorded a voluntary appearance as an emergency arrest. The Daegu District Prosecutors’ Office Uiseong Branch said the officer, identified as B from the traffic investigation team of Police Station A, was indicted on Sept. 30.
According to prosecutors, the suspect in a fatal hit-and-run case went voluntarily to a police substation and was taken to the police station for questioning by mutual agreement. Prosecutors allege that B instead made it appear that the suspect had been chased and urgently arrested outside the substation.
The indictment includes allegations of unlawful arrest through abuse of authority, fabrication of electronic public records, use of fabricated electronic public records and violations of the law governing electronic processing of criminal justice procedures. Prosecutors said the decision followed unanimous deliberation by a citizen prosecution committee.
The case highlights the difference between a person voluntarily appearing for questioning and an emergency arrest, a coercive measure that requires legal grounds and subsequent procedures. The available account does not establish a final court judgment, the number of officers involved or any disciplinary outcome. Those matters remain separate from the prosecution’s allegations and will depend on further proceedings.
