Fixed-term workers are leaving jobs in concentrated numbers at the one- and two-year marks, according to an analysis of employment-insurance loss reasons by Democratic lawmaker Park Ji-hye. Departures after completing two years were five times higher than in the previous month, a pattern linked to the threshold for conversion to regular employment.
Extending fixed-term contracts in mega-specialized zones from two years to up to four could ease immediate contract pressure, but critics warn it may instead repeat temporary employment without raising the path to permanent jobs.
