A court has ruled that organizations established to restore damage from the 2007 Taean oil spill must return about 280 billion won to the Community Chest of Korea. The ruling found that most of the funds were spent on operating costs, including executive and employee salaries, rather than public-interest projects aligned with the organizations’ founding purpose.
The decision places renewed focus on how recovery funds were managed and whether they were used for the communities affected by the disaster.
