Illegal clinics and pharmacies generated 655 billion won in improper health insurance gains from 2021 through June 2026, according to data provided by the National Assembly Budget Office. Medical institutions accounted for 339.2 billion won, while pharmacies accounted for 315.8 billion won.
Only 92.5 billion won was actually collected during the period, leaving the recovery rate at 14.1%. The recovery decision amount for illegal medical institutions rose from 21.8 billion won in 2021 to 111.7 billion won last year, an increase of 411.4%.
