Youngpoong’s Seokpo smelter is again facing scrutiny over environmental pollution, with its soil remediation order reportedly showing little progress after about 10 years. During a climate and energy environment ministry audit on October 6, lawmaker Kim Hyeong-dong called the case a serious crime and urged Minister Kim Seong-hwan to strengthen the response to environmental offenses.
The minister also indicated that the Seokpo smelter case was being treated as important, while further audits may examine the remediation order and the handling of related proceedings.
