Frozen oysters that passed South Korean export inspections were destroyed or recalled six times in the United States after norovirus was detected. The cases occurred in 2024 and 2025, according to an analysis of data obtained from the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the National Fishery Products Quality Management Service by lawmaker Shin Jang-sik.

South Korea has no separate norovirus management standard for oysters intended to be eaten raw under its food standards and specifications.
