A court sentenced four safety officials to prison over the 2022 fire at Hyundai Premium Outlet Daejeon that killed seven people. The outletโs store manager received one year in prison, while the head of the fire-facilities management company received three years.
The court said they could not be considered to have fully carried out their safety duties, citing discarded cardboard left in the loading area despite warnings and fire systems that had been shut down.
