A 45-year-old man who posted online that the May 18 Democratization Movement was a “riot” has been acquitted on appeal. The Daegu District Court’s appellate panel overturned the original 1 million won fine, ruling that the post could not definitively be treated as the dissemination of false information beyond an expression of opinion. The court stressed that its decision did not mean the description was historically accurate or justified.
