External tendons on Seoul’s Jeongneung Stream Overpass have repeatedly broken, while damaged and corroded cables were left unreplaced for two years. The bridge on the Naebu Expressway carries more than 100,000 vehicles a day, raising safety concerns over the condition of its tension system.
Lawmaker Hwang Hee said the Seoul Metropolitan Government had assessed a serious defect as a C3 grade in its own evaluation. The city says it will replace 35 tendons by next June.
