A former public official who ordered the disposal of a shoe cabinet after it killed a sanitation worker has received an eight-month prison sentence suspended for two years. The Suwon District Court also fined three sanitation workers 2 million won each for carrying out the order to dismantle the cabinet. The accident occurred on September 18, 2018, at an administrative welfare center in Suwon, where the cabinet fell and struck the worker, who later died in hospital.
The court found that the official could have foreseen liability for negligent installation and management, and said the missing evidence made it harder for the family to establish what happened.
