The UN Environment Programme projects that global average temperatures could rise about 2.6°C above pre-industrial levels by the end of this century even if countries fulfill their current emissions-reduction targets. The assessment also says the long-term increase would substantially exceed the 1.5°C limit pursued by the international community, with the outlook worsening from the previous year.

In South Korea, current policies are considered insufficient to meet the country’s national emissions-reduction target, leaving a gap between its commitments and implementation.
