Jeju police said they uncovered an enterprise-style illegal gambling network that operated 17 websites from 26 domestic and overseas offices over five years. Twelve people, including the alleged ringleader, were arrested, while 62 others were booked over wagers estimated at 490 billion won. The group recruited a well-known betting analyst from an online Powerball prediction community to attract and retain users, paying the recruiter 2.5% of betting amounts.
Police froze 16.4 billion won in suspected criminal assets, blocked the 17 identified sites, are tracking four fugitives and are expanding the investigation to high-stakes and habitual gamblers.
