The Itaewon disaster special investigation commission has passed the midpoint of its work, but bereaved families say major questions remain unresolved. Its interim report found that a presidential instruction took 55 minutes to reach the Interior and Safety Ministry and that none of 11 emergency calls warning of an imminent crush led to a field response. The commission plans to question former President Yoon Suk Yeol and former Interior and Safety Minister Lee Sang-min during a detention-center visit in December, while families criticize what they call insufficient scrutiny of Seoul’s disaster-management responsibilities.

The commission is scheduled to complete its work on September 16 next year, with families also seeking access to the investigation process and updates for relatives of foreign victims.
