Police in North Chungcheong Province detained and referred to prosecutors a man in his 20s accused of preparing to join ISIS as a foreign fighter. Investigators allege that he accessed ISIS-related websites for years from his teenage years, watched propaganda videos and pledged allegiance to the group.
Police said he met another man, already indicted over alleged plans to bomb Mozambican government forces, through a KakaoTalk open chat and the dark web, and exchanged terrorism-related information. The investigation began after the FBI provided intelligence early last year and continued for about 18 months.
