Korean boccia veteran Choi Ye-jin won silver in the women’s BC3 individual event at the 2026 World Boccia Championships in Seoul after a final that went to a tiebreak.
Choi faced Thailand’s Nadamanee Klahan at the Olympic Park venue on August 31. She took one point in each of the first two ends to lead 2-0, then conceded three points in the third. Choi answered with one point in the fourth to make the score 3-3. The match went to an extra end, where Klahan took the deciding point and the gold medal.
The silver adds to a long international career for Choi. She won individual gold at the 2012 London Paralympics, a pair silver at Rio 2016 and pair gold at the Tokyo Paralympics. Her latest medal came in front of a home crowd at a championship featuring hundreds of athletes from dozens of countries.
Boccia is a precision sport in which players try to place colored balls as close as possible to a white target ball. Korea has been one of the sport’s strongest nations for decades. The Seoul world championships continue into early September, giving the Korean team more chances to add medals in the remaining events.
