Police have referred former Korea Football Association president Chung Mong-gyu and two others to prosecutors over alleged obstruction related to the appointment of Hong Myung-bo as national-team coach. Investigators said they found grounds to suspect that the association's board was given misleading information during the process.

Police did not refer Hong himself, saying they did not find evidence that he directly participated in the alleged wrongdoing.

Chung rejected the police conclusion in a public statement. He said the appointment followed lawful procedures and denied that he had any reason to deceive the board.

The referral moves the case to prosecutors for further review. It does not constitute a conviction, and prosecutors will decide whether the evidence supports charges.
