Korean snowboarder Choi Ga-on has become the first woman in the world to land a backside 1080 in the halfpipe. The 18-year-old Olympic gold medalist completed the three-rotation trick while training in Saas-Fee, Switzerland, and posted footage with the caption “World first Back 1080” on social media. Choi had previously won the women’s halfpipe title at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics with a backside 900, adding another half rotation to that achievement eight months later.

The Snow League and the International Ski and Snowboard Federation highlighted the trick as a new milestone for women’s snowboarding.
