Samsung Electronics and Samsung SDS are moving the Gumi AI data-center project into the construction phase, with work expected to begin after the Chuseok holiday. The project is part of the 19 trillion won investment plan for Gumi announced by Samsung in July.
The planned data center covers about 80,000 square meters and is intended to provide infrastructure for AI workloads. Gumi city officials have also been meeting local construction and business representatives to discuss how regional companies can participate as the project moves from planning into physical development.
A large technology investment reaches the building stage
For Gumi, the significance is not only the computing facility itself. A project of this scale can create demand for construction, electrical systems, maintenance and other supporting services, while strengthening the city's effort to build a larger advanced-industry base.
The construction start will be the first visible implementation step in the broader investment plan. The next points to watch are the detailed build schedule, local procurement, power and infrastructure requirements, and when the facility is expected to begin operating.
