SK Telecom plans to launch an action-oriented AI service in December that can handle practical tasks instead of only answering questions. The project, called Modu-ui AI, is intended to support activities such as hospital bookings, restaurant reservations and taxi calls.
One example is checking hospital waiting times. SK Telecom says the AI could call a clinic directly when that information is not available through online search, then relay the result to the user. The company is also working with healthcare platform Goodoc on hospital search, review and booking functions.
Phone access is part of the design
SK Telecom says it wants older people and other users who may be less comfortable with app-based services to be able to request help by telephone. The company has said phone-based functions are intended to be available regardless of which mobile carrier a person uses, although the final service design has not been fixed.
The launch will test whether agent-style AI can move from demonstration to routine consumer use in Korea. Reliability will matter as much as convenience because the service may interact with hospitals, transport providers and other real-world systems where incorrect actions have immediate consequences.
