Daegu is beginning a 420.7 billion won technology-development program focused on applying artificial intelligence across robotics, biotechnology and healthcare. The city said it has completed formation of the dedicated project organization and is moving into implementation after the program cleared government planning and review stages.

The initiative runs from 2026 through 2030 and is jointly connected to the science, industry and health ministries. Of the total budget, 228.6 billion won is national funding, with the remainder coming from local and other project resources. The program received an exemption from the preliminary feasibility process last year and was finalized in June after a review by the Korea Institute of S&T Evaluation and Planning.

The size of the program makes execution more important than the headline budget. Daegu will need to show which companies and research groups receive support, what technologies reach demonstration stage and whether projects produce investment or jobs outside publicly funded research. The city is positioning robotics, biotech and healthcare as areas where AI can reinforce existing regional industries, but measurable commercial outcomes will determine how much of that strategy is realized.
