Shinhan Bank has joined a Kakao-led consortium as the financial-sector partner in the Ministry of Science and ICT’s ‘Everyone’s AI’ initiative. The government selected three lead consortia for the program, which is designed to connect artificial intelligence with everyday services that can be used by a broad public rather than limiting AI deployment to specialist business tools.
Within the Kakao consortium, Shinhan will focus on identifying and developing AI services for finance. Kakao brings a large consumer platform through KakaoTalk, while Shinhan contributes banking data, workflows and customer-service experience. The combination creates a route for AI functions to reach users inside services they already use, although the exact products and launch timetable have not yet been detailed.
Financial AI carries stricter requirements than many consumer applications because mistakes can affect money, privacy and regulated decisions. The practical value of Shinhan’s role will therefore depend on whether the consortium can build useful services while maintaining verification, security and appropriate human oversight. Upcoming demonstrations will show whether the project produces functions customers can actually use rather than remaining a broad partnership announcement.
