Korean manufacturers are moving factory AI from pilot projects into measurable production use. At HD Hyundai Samho's shipyard, drones photograph work areas several times a day while AI analyzes remaining space and material placement.
The site also uses welding robots that allow one worker to operate two machines. According to the reported example, the process raised productivity by about 30% and is expected to save roughly KRW 2.2 billion a year.
The significance is that the technology is being judged against operating metrics rather than demonstration value. Automated inspection, robot-assisted welding and real-time process tracking are being used to reduce labor bottlenecks and make production status easier to measure.
The government is also encouraging industrial-complex companies to identify problems that AI suppliers can address and to expand successful deployments to partner companies. The useful next measure will be whether similar gains appear outside the early showcase sites.
