LS Electric has put two Boston Dynamics Spot quadruped robots into regular operation at its Busan transformer plant after a two-month pilot with Hyundai AutoEver. The robots are being used to inspect production equipment and support predictive maintenance.

The Busan site produces ultra-high-voltage transformers, a product line seeing stronger demand as AI data-center construction and power-grid investment increase.

Spot can move through factory areas while carrying sensors, allowing repeated checks without sending workers into every inspection location. LS Electric says the goal is to detect equipment problems earlier and improve plant monitoring.

The deployment is now moving from demonstration to routine use. The practical measure will be whether the robots reduce unplanned downtime and whether LS Electric expands the system to additional facilities.
