South Korea is preparing tougher measures against cheating with smart glasses in the college entrance exam, which are already designated as banned items for the 2027 exam. Wearing or using them can void that year's results and lead to a ban from the following year's test, while refusing a device check or failing to submit the device before the first session can also trigger review. The Education Ministry plans to assign one official at each of 1,312 test sites to help identify smart glasses and other banned devices, and it is evaluating wireless-signal detection equipment for possible deployment the following year.
It is also considering criminal complaints or investigation referrals and extending repeat offenders' testing ban from one year to up to three years, while asking universities to consider comparable penalties.
