Ocean World

์˜ค์…˜์›”๋“œ

An Egyptian-themed water oasis in Gangwon's mountains, with an 8-foot wave pool and 300-metre water coaster in summer and a smaller indoor complex in cooler months

On the program

Vivaldi Park resort guests, summer outdoor thrill riders and families looking for an indoor water-park option outside high season

The setting

Four named zones with Pharaoh-themed architecture, indoor wave and family pools, large outdoor Surfing Mount waves, Monster Blaster and a Boomerango-style raft slide

KORInform take

Ocean World's distinctive mountain-desert setting and big slides justify summer travel; an off-season ticket buys a narrower indoor experience, not the entire four-zone map

A desert oasis surrounded by mountains

Ocean World opened in Hongcheon's forested mountains in July 2006. Daemyung designed an Egyptian desert oasis with pyramids, sphinxes and pharaoh figures: the operator's own description imagined bringing the sea into Gangwon's wooded hills. A large outdoor wave pool followed in 2007

The outdoor Surfing Mount generates V-shaped waves around eight feet high. Elsewhere, the Monster Blaster carries riders through a roughly 300-metre water-coaster course, and Super Boomerango sends a raft up the steep side of an oversized half-pipe. These are not interchangeable rides: one puts bathers in a huge wave field, another follows a long winding slide and the third repeatedly climbs a curved wall

Four zones, two seasons

The official guide divides Ocean World into Indoor, Extreme, Dynamic and Mega Slide zones. The Extreme Zone contains Surfing Mount and the fast Extreme River, with wave-driven current and large-scale water movement. The Dynamic Zone houses Monster Blaster, Super Boomerango and a giant Waterplex for playful climbing and splashing. The Mega Slide Zone, introduced in 2011, adds racing and twisting slides, including Cairo Racing and Super S Ride. Later designers extended the Egyptian vocabulary to a Pharaoh Maze tower: when it opened in 2018, a mirror installation and horror attraction occupied its lower level, with Double Spin and Double Tornado water slides above. That describes a past installation, not a guarantee that the maze programme runs today

The Indoor Zone is designed for a different pace, not exclusively for toddlers. Its covered wave pool is about 30 metres long and 20โ€“30 metres wide, with water up to 1.8 metres deep. The waves run in 20-minute sessions separated by 10-minute pauses; younger or less confident swimmers must follow the operator's accompaniment rules. On the first floor, the children's Waterplex stretches across about 570 square metres and has an 8.5-metre-high structure with a 1.5-tonne tipping bucket; its small slides are restricted to children below 120 centimetres. Indoor slides on the second floor and a lazy river give older children additional choices, though not the intensity of the giant summer rides. Pharaoh Spa belongs to the outdoor area, so its Egypt-themed relaxation spaces should not be assumed available when only the indoor zone operates

This division is central to planning, not a footnote. The same Ocean World brand covers a full outdoor summer park and a more compact indoor experience through cooler months. After the main summer season, published operating listings can show only the indoor zone, while the outdoor slides remain on the map but are not available to ride

What the water park actually costs

Ocean World's ticket bands change seasonally, and discounted online tickets may differ from counter prices. During low season the published regular day admission with an indoor locker is lower than peak-summer prices, but the ticket still does not include every rental. Towels and life jackets cost extra. Resort-room packages and the jjimjilbang sauna are separate products and should not be mistaken for automatic extras

The operator also has an unusually specific footwear rule. Swimwear and a hat or swimming cap are required, and dedicated aqua shoes must be worn in pool and attraction areas; street shoes, sandals and flip-flops do not qualify. Without suitable footwear visitors may lose access to pools or rides even if they hold a ticket

Before you go

Ocean World is part of Vivaldi Park at 262 Hanchigol-gil, well outside central Hongcheon. The resort has hotels and restaurants on site, but a water-park ticket is not an overnight-room booking. For day trips without a car, transport requires a plan even when the seasonal paid Seoul shuttle is suspended. Vivaldi Park lists local bus connections from Hongcheon Intercity Bus Terminal and Yangdeokwon, plus a route from Chuncheon via Namchuncheon and Palbongsan; the resort's bus stop is between Ocean World and the ski centre. These are usable alternatives to the seasonal Seoul shuttle, but departure frequencies are limited and current return times should be checked

In summer the site rewards thrill-seekers who specifically want Surfing Mount, Monster Blaster and the open-air river. Outside the outdoor season it makes more sense as an indoor pool-and-spa visit, particularly for people already staying at Vivaldi Park

Hours
Operator posts daily zone operating status; current off-season indoor zone typically 10:00โ€“18:00, while outdoor slides, rivers and wave facilities may be shut. Never treat the all-zone summer roster as available on every date
Admission
Official low-season day adult/youth with indoor locker โ‚ฉ50,000 weekdays or โ‚ฉ55,000 weekends; children โ‚ฉ40,000 or โ‚ฉ45,000. Infants under 36 months free with age proof. Winter rates differ; towels โ‚ฉ1,500 each, life jackets and other rentals charged separately; resort discounts or online offers vary
Access
262 Hanchigol-gil, Seo-myeon, Hongcheon, inside Vivaldi Park. Swimwear and head covering required; dedicated aqua shoes mandatory in water zones, ordinary slippers/sandals not accepted. Indoor locker is the standard choice in low season, while outdoor locker operation is suspended
Transit
Vivaldi Park is not beside a railway station. Seasonal Seoul-area paid shuttles require a confirmed booking. When they are not operating, the resort lists local buses from Hongcheon Intercity Bus Terminal, Yangdeokwon and Chuncheon via Namchuncheon; alight at the resort stop between Ocean World and the ski centre. Verify current service times and the return connection
